It’s been about a month since the courthouse have been “shut down” due to COVID-19. I have to give credit to the Judges, Justices, Ministry of the Attorney General, court staff at 360 Plouffe Street, North Bay, North Bay Police, OPP, and the North Bay Crown Attorney: they did a superb job getting everything ready for teleconference court. At first, it was a steep learning curve for everyone - conducting court over the phone is very different than in person. However, today it feels second nature. Also, it’s much different not having face to face meetings with clients, especially new clients. However, I noticed, everyone is a better listener. You really close off your senses and just focus on what is being said. I joked with some colleagues about how there is no more daily shaving and dressing up or wearing a tie. It’s been very comfy wearing lululemons and doing bail hearings from the comfort of my home. And with the late snowfall, it’s not a bad view either. So back to court, emails, and teleconferences in my lululemons.
