Practicing criminal law in Toronto was very different than practicing in Northern Ontario. Some key differences are the numerous amounts of courthouses and different Crown Attorneys I would have pre-trials, trials, judicial pre-trials and trials with. Sometimes that would mean I would never run into that particular Crown again. However the big firm culture allowed us to contact each other and see if someone already had a prior dealing. Same
goes with the Judges and Justices of the Peace. It’s always a good tactic to try and figure who your about to deal with. In Northern Ontario, there are obviously less Crowns, Judges, and JPs, so within a month you can meet everyone! Prior dealings and knowledge of the person your dealing with obviously helps with future cases. Knowing what works makes less room for error on your case. Feel free to reach out to me get some intel! I’m always here to help.
